Did you know that Australians dispose of more than 30 million toothbrushes each year, equating to approximately 1000 tonnes of landfill? Toothbrushes are non-biodegradable, so they remain in landfill indefinitely.
But there is a way to recycle your toothbrushes. In fact, you can recycle much of your oral health waste, such as empty toothpaste tubes, floss containers and any outer packaging.
TerraCycle and Colgate have partnered to create a free recycling program for oral care products. Not only that – the program rewards you with payments to your charity of choice for each item you recycle!
Take part to help the planet and raise valuable funds for eviDent’s vital research to improve the oral health of all Australians.
All you need to do is sign up for an account at www.terracycle.com.au. When you are ready to send in a shipment, download a shipping label from your TerraCycle account and follow the prompts. Print out your label and tape it securely onto your box. Ship the box to TerraCycle by dropping it off at your nearby post office.
Once collected, the waste is separated by composition, shredded and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products.
